Emigrant William Blythe Believed to be the Common Ancestor of Many U. S. Blythes: It is the author's conclusion the William Blythe/Bly/Blyth who came from England to the LT. S. in 1652 and his wife Sarah are the common ancestors of at least 5,000 plus of the Blythe/Bly/Blyth descendants included in this publication. This William arrived in the Yorke River, VA area July 16, 1652.
William's brother, John, accompanied him to this area. John's will was proven in 1662 and 1664. However, no children/descendants were listed in the will.
Apparently William later migrated from Yorke River to Isle of Wight County, VA. His will was recorded in this county in 1663 -- naming two sons William and Christopher. No further information was found for the son William and no descendants were identified.
Christopher sold his Isle of Wight Co., VA inheritance in 1678. By 1700 he had become a landowner in the nearby Chowan Co. NC area. Christopher's offspring could not be identified as no will was found for Christopher and apparently no census was taken. However, land records for this area during the following years do include Blythes as landowners. It is suspected at least some, and possibly all, of these Blythes would appear to be related to Christopher - either sons or nephews. (mm.)

Notes:
1. The author suspects William may have had a previous marriage before his marriage to Sarah Murphree (Murphy) because of the birthdates of his older children. See page 22.
2. The Daniel Murphree listed above, the father of Sarah Murphree, is thought to be the same Daniel Murphree as mentioned in the land records on page 4. This strongly suggest the probablity that the
William Blythe above is the same as the William of Bertie Co., NC.
