She was a long time Kansas City, KS, resident with a stay in Jacksonville, FL, for about eight years. Mary worked for Sealright and the Muncipal Airport as a cook in her early life, and was a homemaker. She was Catholic and attended Rosedale High School. Mrs Hansen was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Hansen, on October 16, 1976. Survivors include sons, James W Hansen, Jacksonville, FL, and Harry R Hansen, Kansas City, KS; daughter, Mary (Hansen) Wallace, Topeka, KS: Grand children, MIchelle Lukenbill, Robert Hansen, Michael Hansen, Aaron, Jason and Christopher Wallace; and great-grandchildren, Robert Lukenbill IV, and Dana Nicole Hansen.

She was a waitress at the Airport, I don't know if she actually was a cook at the airport. I do know she was a cook at Sealrights. She joined a catholic church about 15 years ago.
She went to a methodist church, when her Children were young. Her daughter and Son-in Law lived in Victoria, Kansas where she rented a place for two years there, too. She met some ladies and joined the Catholic church. It was a beautiful church and her daughter was there when she was baptized.

They sent her to the hospital and operated on her because of a broken hip, a doctor put a pin in her hip. ( the other hip was broken before that) The doctor told us her bones were really fragile. And he just give her under 6 months to live then. So they sent her back to the nursing home, there was nothing else they could do for her. At the nursing home she came down with pnemonia. This last Saturday morning they sent her back to the hospital and she went into a coma and never regained consciousness again. Monday, March 26, at 8:40pm she died. She was 79, her next birthday would have been, May 9.

Her funeral was March 31, 2001 at the Maple Hill Funeral Home. My brothers and I had her cremated and her ashes were put with Dad's grave in Maple Hill Cemetery. She had spent several years in nursing homes, she was in bad health. I first put her in a nursing home in Marietta, Oklahoma because she fell and broke her hip and since she was very heavy, she was too hard to handle alone. My husband taught school in Oklahoma. He lost his job and we lost our home, and had to declare bankruptcy. We moved back to Kansas and brought Mom with us. We put her in a home in Olathe, Kansas.

Over about 3 years she had over 7 strokes and lost the ability to speak. The home managed to let her get bed sores and she got infection after infection. They also (accidently) broke her other hip. She had to be hospitalized for that. The doc said her bones were very fragile he could put his finger thru her bones in her hip. She also had a pacemaker, (enlarged heart). Her heart wasn't good either. This last year in the nursing home she just went down fast. She got down to about 130 lbs maybe. At the end she got pneumonia and went into a coma. She just wasn't strong enough to make it. They even said if they would have used those paddles to try to revive her it would have crushed her chest. (her bones were thin).

A handful of relatives showed up at her funeral. My brother Harry did all the talking at the funeral and it was hard for him. My other brother Jim, came up from Florida, where he lives. It was sad for me, but all this last year the doctors told me time and time again mom probably wouldn't make it a year.
