Letter
12 Aug 1896
Extract of the letter:
'I thank you many times for your letter of July 9th, and I am glad to hear from you and from home. It was no sorrow to hear that Hanna is dead (Johanna Iversen Hald 1839-1896). She had not been well for years and had both sadness and affliction to contend with. I am glad that those at home were at the funeral. I wish I could see them and talk with them, especially your mother. We have always been fond of each other. You must greet them many times from me when you write home. I would like to write to them. I am so pleased with Cathrine. She always writes such a fine letter.'

Sister Maria Columba, Colorado, 2021:
Maren and Hans Christian and Maria had another sister, Johanna. Bedstefar (Paul Freeman) said that she married a man called Wildfang and lived in Slesvig. I have never found a trace of them, but the spelling may have been different. A letter from Tante Marie to Bedstefar in August, 1896, refers to the death of 'poor Hanna' who had not been well for years and had had sadness and affliction in her life. I suspect this is Johanna, who, according to Bedstefar, was a hard drinker and 'soon went broke'.

Johanne Iversen Wildfang, born Hall, from Sverdrup, a daughter of Iver Christensen Hall, a worker, and his wife Anna Maria Hermannsen Schmidt in Sønder Stenderup at Kolding, born there 1839, 31st December. Her husband was Simon Jepsen, a worker in Sverdrup, (a former farmer in Aastrup) whom she leaves with three children: 1. August Iwersen, 2. Maren Theodora, and 3. Anne Marie Wildfang. 56 years 3 months old.
